La forza delle stelle | Baroque Orchestra
Founded in 2022, La forza delle stelle is a period-instrument orchestra based in Montclair, New Jersey.
We specialize in music from the Baroque era—spanning (approximately) the years 1600 to 1750—and want to share our love for this repertoire with our audience members! Our name—which means “the power of the stars” in Italian—is taken from a cantata by Baroque composer Alessandro Stradella (1643–82), whose compositions and life story demonstrate just how passionate and exciting the Baroque time period and its music can be! (Seriously, check out his bio if you don’t know about him already.)
We also want to help others learn more about what historically-informed performance is and why we think it’s important. We believe that Baroque music sounds the best on the original instruments it was written for and we can’t wait to show you why through exciting concerts full of intriguing music played on period instruments!
La forza delle stelle is made up of musicians who graduated from some of the most prestigious conservatories in the United States—including Juilliard, Eastman, and Indiana University—and who now work as professional musicians in the NYC area. Our ensemble mostly plays music with one instrument per part, which means we’re a small, tight-knit group.
Montclair is the home for our annual series of concerts and we’re passionate about bringing Baroque music to life for a modern audience in northern New Jersey and the New York City area! So come join us for a concert and help us help you fall in love with Baroque music!
